A ROAD which closed due to intense flooding has NOT reopened, despite the lack of closure signs.

Three-way traffic lights are still in force but the chair of a lobbying group has suggested there are "underlying problems" affecting the road.

It was closed shortly after 1pm on January 7 following severe flooding the night before but Councillor Charles McGrath had been advising people to avoid the road ahead of the closure.

The Journal understands the road has not reopened, but a resident has moved the signs indicating it is closed, causing confusion.

David Lovibond, chair of the Milford Area Preservation Group said: "These roads were never meant to carry this amount of traffic.

"The road is narrow, one side does not have pavement so you're bound to get these problems and they are exacerbated by flooding."

The nearby meadow has flooded but Mr Lovibond said the blocked drains at the Milford Mill Road junction mean there is nowhere for the water to go.

"All it takes is two blokes with a spade, it's not rocket science," he added.

Wiltshire councillor for Milford Charles McGrath has told the Journal that the rest of the floodwater is being cleared on Monday and Tuesday next week and the road will be reopened after that.

He said: "I understand the sign was moved by a resident/motorist who wanted access to Milford Mill Road. Officially the road is shut.

"I’ve asked Wiltshire Highways to reinstate the sign although naturally there has to be some level of access otherwise people wouldn’t be able to get to their homes. Essentially the road should be closed to through traffic."
