TWO new sports courses designed to get adults re-discovering the joys of badminton and tennis will be launched in September.

The Salisbury Sport and Physical Activity Alliance, through Salisbury District Council, has joined forces with Wiltshire Badminton and Victoria Park Tennis Centre to set up two 10-week "back to badminton" courses and one "back to tennis" course.

The courses are designed to encourage complete beginners, or people who used to enjoy playing tennis and badminton, to play and enjoy these fantastic sports. Qualified coaches will provide fun, friendly and relaxed sessions, which will enable people taking part to develop their confidence and skills in a safe and supportive environment.

The first badminton course starts from September 17 and will take place on Wednesdays, 7- 8pm, at Chafyn Grove School. The second course starts from 18 September and takes place on Thursdays, 6-7pm at Amesbury Sports Centre.

The tennis course will start from September 10 and will be held on Wednesdays, 6.15pm - 7.30pm at Victoria Park Tennis Centre, Salisbury.

All courses are open to everyone aged 18 and over. The 10-week badminton courses cost £40 and the six-week tennis course costs £35.

Louise Cary, Principal Sports Development Officer at Salisbury District Council, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for more adults to get physically active in a supportive environment.

"The courses will give participants the confidence to start playing badminton and tennis again, pick up some basic skills, and start to improve fitness.

"There are many opportunities for people to hire casual badminton and tennis courts as well as join one of the many tennis or badminton clubs in the district once the programmes end. We hope that people who take part in the courses will carry on playing these sports."

The badminton and tennis sessions are hot on the heels of our other successful 'back to sport' running and netball courses.
