A POWER cut could leave a rows of houses without access to electricity for 12 hours.

Residents of Hamilton Road and Woodstock Road, in Salisbury, first reported the outage at 6.12am this morning, February 13.

SSE engineers arrived on the site at 10am and said the road would have to be dug up so that they could carry out repairs.

The electricity company estimates 28 customers are affected and said the cause of the power cut was a fault on the underground network.

A statement on SSE's power tracking website read: "This is the most common type of fault we see and our teams are very experienced in dealing with these issues.

"In most cases, our engineers are able to restore power by simply replacing a fuse at the local substation.

"However, if the fault is severe, this may result in us needing to make full repairs which can take longer."

SSE is aiming to restore power by 6pm.
