A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A31. 

Emergency services were called to the dual carriageway at Canford Bottom roundabout shortly before 11am on Wednesday, April 3. 

The rider was involved in a crash with a car and suffered injuries that Dorset Police has described as “serious but not life-threatening". 

Meanwhile, the busy A31 has been closed between Canford Bottom and Ameysford roundabouts for several hours while recovery is arranged for the vehicles.  

Highways England has said it reckons the road will reopen at around 3pm. 

Elsewhere, the crash has brought travel chaos to the surrounding area including Ferndown, which one resident described as “basically a slow moving car park”. 

Traffic has been diverting round the industrial estate via Cobham Road as well as Ringwood Road. 

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 10.42am to a collision involving a car and a motorbike at Canford Bottom roundabout 

"Officers are in attendance with the ambulance service 

"The A31 is closed between Canford Bottom and Ameysford roundabouts." 

An air ambulance was also seen above the area however according to Flight Radar it turned around and was sent back to base. South Western Ambulance Service has been contacted for more details.
