SALISBURY schools have been invited for a chance to receive free solar panels, worth up to £20,000.

The opportunity comes in the second phase of The Co-Operative's Green Energy for Schools scheme.

Having already spent £1m installing solar panels at 100 schools across the UK in the past year, The Co-Operative has earmarked a further £1m for the scheme.

The photovoltaic solar panels- installed by leading solar energy company SolarCentury- are half funded by The Co-Operative and match-funded by the Government's Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP). Each system generates over 3,400 kWh of electricity each year, which provides enough power to run a school computer for 33,000 hours- saving around two tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The opportunity is only open to Co-operative members, who can nominate their school to receive the free solar panels until November 5. For further details, visit www.co-operative.coop/greenenergyforschools
