TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Salisbury councillor who campaigned on behalf of his constituents right up until his death.
Simon Howarth,47, died on Saturday following a long battle with cancer.
Despite his illness Mr Howarth threw his energy into working for the residents of his St Martin and Milford ward and he was also a teacher and examiner and governor at St Martin's primary school.
"He bore his illness with no malice and continued to work for his constituents until his very last days," said his friend and deputy leader of Salisbury District Council Steve Fear.
"Even from his hospital bed he called in the planning application for a phone mast in Exeter Street.
"He championed people's views without ever getting into unnecessary quarrels.
"We will all miss Simon very much."
