PUPILS from Wyvern College tried their hand at skateboarding in recent sessions of the college’s extreme sports club.

Under the instruction of Geoff Else, from Rubicon Skate School, the group tried their hand at skateboarding tricks such as ollies and heel flips.

Neil Atkin, advanced skills teacher, started the club in September with help from schools sports co-ordinator Charlie Sztucki, enabling pupils to try sports outside of the mainstream.

“We have done power kiting and kite buggying, and we are going to be doing mountain boarding and organising a surfing trip,” said Mr Atkin.

“One of the key points to it is to engage students who are not necessarily involved in sports and getting them more active.”

He said the club has been hugely successful so far and the skateboarding sessions had gone well.

“We got some cool guys who are really good role models for the children,” he said.
