RINGWOOD Meeting House has kicked off the New Year with a major photographic exhibition.

Entitled Ringwood – Then and Now, the exhibition contains more than old 70 photographs of the town from the extensive collection of well-known local historian Ted Baker.

Each picture is coupled with an image of the same place taken by Ted in 2007, showing how the town has developed over the years.

The houses, shops and inns that figure in the exhibition were all situated in four of Ringwood’s main streets – Christchurch Road, Southampton Road, Market Place and the High Street.

The old photos range in date from the late 19th century to others taken by Ted himself in the 1960s.

“Ringwood is constantly changing,” Ted, a founder chairman of the Meeting House Association, said.

“And these pictures show how the town has developed over the years. One can really see the increasing pace of change in the fact that some of my 2007 pictures are unrecognisable or capture buildings which are no longer there.”

The exhibition is open and runs at the Meeting House until the end of March. The Meeting House is open Monday to Saturday from 10am-noon and 10am-2.30pm on Wednesdays.
