Burglary at Upper Woodford

A BURGLAR crept into a house in Upper Woodford and stole wedding and engagement rings while the elderly owners were in a nearby room, completely unaware.

The couple, who have asked to remain anonymous, were in their living room on April 28 between 3pm and 5pm when someone entered their home through a conservatory door and went upstairs to the main bedroom.

As well as the rings a number of other items were taken, including a locket on a silver chain, a silver Celtic cross, a WI brooch and two eternity rings. It is also believed that the front door key and car keys were taken.

Many of the items hold great sentimental value for the couple, particularly the wedding and engagement rings, the loss of which has caused great heartache.

The wedding ring is 9-carat gold with platinum and is described as slightly wider than 5mm, with a gold central band that contains a geometric pattern edged with platinum. The platinum edge has a serrated pattern, edged with a thin band of gold. It was repaired some years ago so bears no hallmark.

The engagement ring is also 9-carat gold and is a pair for the wedding ring. It has a twist with a diamond in the middle and a smaller diamond either side. Each diamond is set in a platinum flower arrangement.

PC Darren Willis of Wiltshire Police said: “This was a very distressing incident where a large amount of personal items that had sentimental as well as financial value were taken. I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anything at all suspicious.

“In particular I would like to raise awareness with jewellers who may be offered the pieces and request that anyone who is offered jewellery such as this by an unauthorised source contacts the police.”
