ANOTHER Wiltshire-based soldier was killed in Afghanistan last night, the third in a little over a week.
The soldier, with Bulford-based 4th Battalion The Rifles, was killed in an explosion whilst on foot patrol near Nad Ali, Helmand Province, yesterday afternoon.
His name has not yet been released but next of kin have been informed.
Nine British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan in the last week including Tidworth-based Cpt Ben Babbington-Browne and Tpr Joshua Hammond.
Cpt Babington-Browne, 27, from 22 Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers, died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Monday.
The incident took place whilst on takeoff in Zabul province, at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mescall. Two Canadian soldiers were also killed in the crash.
Tpr Hammond, 18, of 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, also based at Tidworth, died in a blast near Lashkar Gah last Wednesday, along with Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe, 39, the commanding officer of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and the highest ranking British officer to be killed in action since the Falklands War.
