JUDGES were impressed by a display of Salisbury’s flower power when they toured the city on Wednesday (July 8).
The ‘City of Flowers’ has won silver awards for the last two years in the South & South East in Bloom competition.
City council services manager Reg Williams showed the judges around Harnham Slope, Warres Acres allotments, Harnham recreation ground and the Middle Street Meadow, meeting residents, allotment holders and the council’s groundsmen, before taking the Town Path route to Queen Elizabeth Gardens and the city centre.
The judges, Peter Holman and Ian White, also encountered Gilbert the floral dragon in the High Street.
Mr Williams said: “It was a pleasure to be able to highlight all the hard work of the council’s groundsmen and contractors. Seeing so many flowers around the city is also a real testament to the people of Salisbury and the local businesses and organisations that support Salisbury City of Flowers each year.”
The judging tour ended with a reception at the Guildhall with the mayor, Bobbie Chettleburgh, who said: “We all take great pride in our city and we’re always hopeful of doing well in this competition.”
