YOUNG people have voted Stonehenge as their top British iconic landmark in a recent children’s tourism report.

Hotel chain Travelodge polled 2,500 youngsters to find out what they rate as Britain’s most iconic landmarks and the 5,000-year-old monument came out on top.

The children polled chose mostly historical sites above modern attractions with the rest of the top ten featuring Hadrian’s Wall, the London Eye, Edinburgh Castle, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the White Cliffs of Dover, the Angel of the North, Blackpool Tower and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Mark Kemp, Travelodge reservations director, said: “It’s great news that young Brits are keen to preserve Great Britain’s heritage, as most of the attractions to make children’s top ten list of iconic British landmarks are steeped in history.”
