A NURSE from St Ives near Ringwood has cycled 50 miles on gruelling terrain to raise funds for a shelter for the street children of Kenya - and will be leaving for Nairobi next month to help build it.

Jenna Thompson, 25, cycled 50 miles over the Purbeck hills this month to raise the money for the charity Moving Mountains.

She has raised over £300 for the shelter so far and is funding her own trip out to Kenya, so all money raised will go to the project.

Once there, Jenna will putting her back into some hard labour and learning new skills such as bricklaying, plastering and fitting windows to complete the children’s shelter.

In addition some days will be spent in an orphanage and surrounding local schools in Siaya whre she can spend time getting to know the children.

Jenna and other volunteers will also be taking a group from the orphanage to Malindi for their first ever seaside holiday.

Moving Mountains works mostly in Kenya and Nepal, helping street children and their families with education, health and welfare, building and promoting environmentally and economically sustainable projects and providing employment and income for people caught in the poverty trap.
