AN AGRICULTURAL business should continue thriving after getting planning approval for two holiday cabins.
New Forest Lavender in Landford has been open to the public for two years; selling plants, showing people how the plant is farmed and producing homemade lavender cakes.
The Hayward family, who run the farm, spoke at Wiltshire Council’s southern area planning committee meeting on Thursday to explain why they want to build the two holiday cabins.
Michael Hayward said there was a shortage of self-catering facilities in the area and the cabins would benefit the local economy. His wife Melanie said the farm created a wonderful opportunity for visitors to enjoy the countryside.
The parish council objected to the proposal but councillors voted unanimously in favour of approval.
Cllr Fred Westmoreland: “It’s a genuine business within the countryside, it should be given a little bit of help along the way. They’ve made a genuine effort to make the place look attractive.”
