AN unusual Regency bench, which was found upended in a corner of a Salisbury house, has fetched £11,000 at auction.
The double-sided mahogany Thomas Hope bench was discovered during a routine probate valuation at a 1930s house in Salisbury.
Valuer Philip Rance noticed the bench in the corner of the living room and recognised it was made by leading London cabinet makers Marsh and Tatham.
It was entered into a fine art auction at Netherhampton Salerooms on July 14 and sold to a West Country dealer for £11,000.
