LIBRARY users in Wiltshire are being urged to help identify their priorities to help find £500,000 of cuts to the service.

As part of the countrywide cuts to budgets, the Wiltshire library service must find the savings in the next two years from an annual budget of more than £5million.

Officers in charge of library services have been visiting all the area boards in the county to tell councillors and members of the public about possible changes.

The review is at the first stage of defining what the service does, how it does it and what customers want.

Chris Moore, the Wiltshire Council’s reading and learning services manager, said: “Several suggestions have emerged from work with a range of focus groups but we are still in the defining stage. We will then go on to design, develop and deploy the changes.”

Among the suggestions for saving money is linking up with other organisations, such as the NHS, the Citizens Advice Bureau, police, schools and voluntary organisations. People who have ideas can contact county hall in Trowbridge.
