A MAN who suffered a serious back injury in a motorcycle accident has completed a gruelling cycling challenge to raise money for other people with spinal injuries.
Occupational therapist Robert Padwick, 49, and his nephew Elliott Barlow, 23, both from Salisbury, cycled more than 100 miles a day for ten days to get from John O’Groats to Lands End, raising more than £2,500 for the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust.
Mr Padwick fractured a bone at the base of his spine 12 years ago and spent months recovering in a hospital. He read about the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust fundraising appeal for the Jubilee Garden at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre at Salisbury Hospital.
Mr Padwick said: “Every day was a real challenge. We cycled through some of the worst weather conditions imaginable.”
