A PLANNING inspector has turned down an appeal for permission to build two detached homes on land near Cholderton.
Landowner Henry Edmunds wants to develop an overgrown site close to the A303 that forms part of the Cholderton Farm Estate.
It lies between two existing properties, Pearl Cottage and The Bungalow.
He told planners the development of the four-bedroomed houses would inject new life into the area and the proceeds would be used to renovate listed buildings on the estate.
Wiltshire Council turned down his application, and the inspector, Michael Muston, backed the council’s decision.
He said the site was outside the housing boundary, in a location where national guidance said new housing should not normally be permitted. The householders would suffer from too much noise, and the development would adversely affect the character of the area because of the loss of trees.
