PEOPLE put on their running shoes and took part in this year’s Great Wishford Run at the weekend to help raise money for the village school.

The annual event to raise funds for Great Wishford Primary School is in its third year and attracted more than 180 runners on Saturday, which was the best turn out yet.

“It was fantastic,” said event organiser Justine Hadford, who is chairman of the Friends of the school. “It was a really, really good day and the weather was glorious.

“It was the first one I had organised, and as far as I am concerned it could not have gone better.”

The event, held in Grovely Woods in Wilton, offers a 10k route and a 3k alternative, which attracted about 85 runners, who were mostly children aged from five.

“A lot were from the school,” said Mrs Hadford. “They came round at such speed down the slope to the finish – it was amazing.”

The winner of the 5k was Alvin Martin, with the first children under 11 over the line being Ben Rolfe and Ella Sykes.

The winner of the 10k was Amy Chalke, who completed the course in just under 41 minutes.

The fundraising total currently stands at £1,500, but it is hoped it will reach £1,800 when sponsorship money starts coming in.
