TWO men were arrested after police caught them in Salisbury city centre with equipment used for tampering with cash machines.

Officers were patrolling on Castle Road on September 17 when they became aware of two men acting suspiciously near a cash machine at the Co-op store.

After stopping them and finding card skimming devices, they were arrested and taken to Salisbury police station.

Cosmin Barbu, 28, from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, was charged with going equipped for theft and was remanded in custody. He pleaded guilty to the offence and is due to be sentenced on October 1.

The other man, who is 37 years old, was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Sgt Jon Lee from Salisbury Police said: “Cash machine and credit card fraud causes massive loss to the financial world and individuals every day.

“This was a good result for the local crime team, which is dedicated to identifying and bringing to justice those responsible.”
