A CONSULTANT from Salisbury District Hospital is flying out to Nairobi in November to take part in a sponsored bike ride in aid of a project working with orphans.

Jonathan Cullis, who works in the haematology department, will be joining 60 other cyclists to take part in the 435km challenge to Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria.

The group will fly out on November 5 and will be cycling on a mixture of tarmac roads and tracks over a five-day period to raise funds for Kenyan Orphan Project – a charity set up by medical students from Bristol a few years ago.

The ride aims to raise at least £70,000 to help local sanitation projects, as well as the redevelopment of two schools for orphaned children in Kisumu.

Dr Cullis’ personal fundraising target is £1,200. To help hit this target visit www.justgiving.com/jocullis or leave donations at Coombe Bissett Village Store or at the hospital’s haematology department, care of Dr J. O. Cullis.
