POLICE raided a house in Fovant on Thursday after receiving information that pirated films were being produced at the address.

The warrant was executed through a joint operation between the Wiltshire Police fraud team and the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).

Officers seized a large amount of computer and camera equipment from the property and arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of offences under the Copyright Designs & Patent Act 1988, and for possessing/supplying articles for use in fraud.

He was taken to Salisbury police station and was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Criminal justice investigator Simon Thomas from the Wiltshire Police fraud investigation team said: "Film piracy is a crime and Wiltshire Police take all incidents of fraud seriously.

"We will take action against anyone suspected of illegally downloading and distributing films and are working closely with FACT to do so."

FACT director general Kieron Sharp said: "The recording and uploading of films to the Internet is the primary source for downloading, filesharing and streaming websites and other services.

"FACT is committed to detecting and preventing this activity and is working with police across the UK. I wish to thank Wiltshire Police for their assistance in this case."
