A TEA party will be held in Wilton on Monday to celebrate the achievements of a project focusing on the River Avon.

The Living River project, which started four years ago, aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the river and to inspire people in its catchment to do something to conserve its qualities.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and managed by Natural England, the project is due to be completed this year, and its achievements are to be celebrated at the event at the Michael Herbert Hall from 3pm.

Since it started, the project has achieved significant restoration of parts of the River Avon system, together with improvements in public access and interpretation.

People who have worked with the project during the last four years will be in attendance, and there will be an opportunity to view displays and listen to presentations.

Project manager Eva Stuetzenberger said: “The success of the project is clear to see, not just the return of Atlantic salmon to recently restored parts of the river, but particularly the way the Living River has inspired people to enjoy and learn more about their local river and take the practical steps to keeping it healthy.

“It has been an exemplar in bringing together private industry, statutory agencies, charitable bodies, landowners and angling organisations in the Avon catchment with a common aim of conservation.”
