AN elderly woman who had her savings stolen in a burglary has been reimbursed thanks to donations from kindhearted members of the public.
The burglary at a house in Lyndhurst Road, Amesbury, happened between 10am and 5.45pm on September 20.
Thieves stole a light blue ceramic pig with “holiday pig” written on the side, which contained about £86 in one and two-pound coin – money the elderly woman had been saving up for a holiday.
After reading about the victim’s plight in the Journal, several members of the public were so moved that they offered to help replace the money she’d lost.
A police spokesman said the elderly woman is very grateful and touched by these kind offers.
A 17-year-old local boy has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
