PLANS to build 13 retirement homes on land in Amesbury have been branded overdevelopment of the site by town councillors.
Developers want to build on land behind the Antrobus Hotel, in the Grade II listed building’s outer walled garden.
The houses, which would be built in two terraces, are described as within easy walking distance of all the town’s amenities.
Town councillor Roger Fisher said the site, which is just over half an acre, would be overcrowded and if the plan went ahead.
Concerns were also raised about access for the emergency services and the area allocated for refuse not being big enough.
At a meeting held on Tuesday, Amesbury Town Council objected to the plan, submitted by Andrew Read of Read Quality Building in Wimborne, which will be decided by Wiltshire Council.
