A MISSIONARY nun who has been travelling around the world for the last 35 years offering spiritual help and spreading the word about Christianity and Jesus has reached Salisbury.

Sister Ruth Augustus, 70, who is based at a convent in Chelsea, London, arrived in the city yesterday.

She said she will be out and about in the city, visiting supermarkets and pubs, offering help, advice and prayer for anyone who wants to chat.

“You will be amazed what people tell me,” said Sister Ruth, who is on the last leg of her tour of the UK. “Some people break down in tears.

“I want people to love Jesus and to pray wherever they are – on the streets or in the pub. I am here until I think everyone has talked to me that wants to.”

Her next stop after Salisbury is Southampton.

Sister Ruth, a graduate of Keele University, said she has visited Salisbury before, but is looking forward to exploring the city again and seeing all the historic buildings.

“I love the cathedral,” she said, “it is one of the most beautiful in the world, and the city is still very Christian in its culture. It is a beautiful, historic city with a lot of old buildings. I love it.”
