HAMPSHIRE County Council’s cabinet member for culture and recreation is due to make a decision on Monday on the future of the mobile library service.

The service has been operating in the county for 40 years and has never been comprehensively reviewed.

It is one of the biggest of its kind in the country, with 19 vehicles making more than 1,200 stops.

Councillor Margaret Snaith-Tempia, said: “We will be ensuring that the service still reaches isolated rural communities, priority areas of urban deprivation, pre-school and children’s centres, residential and nursing homes, sheltered accommodation where public transport links are poor and individuals who are housebound.”
