VANDALS targeted a children’s play area, causing £2,000 of damage to the slide.
The damage, which is believed to have been caused using an axe or a sharp blade, happened in the early hours of Wednesday at the South Newton and Great Wishford play park.
Officers in Wilton believe the offender probably lives locally and may have boasted about the act prior to committing it, and that residents may have witnessed the event.
Sgt Dean Garvin from Wiltshire Police said: “I know that any act of criminal damage can have a real impact on the victim, I am however further saddened by the fact that the offender has targeted a piece of equipment designed and provided for the enjoyment of children.”
