A BOMB disposal team has been called in after a suspicious package was found at Salisbury Police Station.

The area around the station, in Wilton Road, was cordoned off and nearby buildings evacuated after the package was discovered in the car park shortly after 3.30pm.

A police spokesman said a bomb disposal team is on its way and urged people to avoid the area if possible.

Wilton Road is currently closed, with traffic being diverted onto Cherry Orchard Road. Highbury Avenue and Ashfield Road have also been closed off.

The ambulance and fire services have also been called in, along with Wiltshire Council’s emergency planning team.
