CHILDREN in Wilton have been designing posters to deter people from shoplifting following a spate of incidents in the town.

Following recent issues with shoplifting, PC Becky Grist and PCSO Ben Brewster visited Wilton and Barford Primary School to speak to pupils in years 4, 5 and 6.

They set them the task of designing the posters, with entries being judged by staff from Budgen’s and One Stop last Tuesday.

The two winners had their posters displayed in the shops, and both also received a prize.

PCSO Brewster said: “Our aim was to educate the children about the consequences of shoplifting and deter them from committing the offence in the future.

“The majority of local youths are not involved in any way in the recent issues but we hope that our work in the community will encourage those responsible to think about their actions.

“The plan was also to incorporate the local shops and make it fun for the children at the same time.”
