Larkhill residents have been working together to give the village its own identity. The Larkhill Community Partnership group (LCP) and Durrington Town Council have worked with the surrounding military bases to rejuvenate the Packway shopping area.
The rejuvenation and safety campaign, which was launched 18 months ago, has seen the introduction of a 30mph speed limit, a patio area with benches, seats, new litter bins, flower tubs, and Packway Parade and Welcome to Larkhill signs.
Claire Perry MP cut the ribbon on Saturday to officially open the new and improved Packway. She said: “People have worked really hard. It’s a really good example of a partnership and I am pleased to support it. It shows what can be achieved when people work together.”
The improvements were made possible by funding from Wiltshire Council and have been welcomed by the community, police and shopkeepers.
Councillor Graham Wright, chairman of LCP, said: “I would like to thank all the partners and people who have helped to achieve so much in such a short time. Special thanks to the Garrison Commander and the Gunners of Larkhill, Durrington Town Council and Wiltshire Council Area Board for their funding.”
