STAFF and members of the Jo Benson Day Centre have said goodbye to arts volunteer Dora Williams after 23 years of service.
Mrs Williams, 85, who lives in Beatrice Road in Salisbury, was presented with a posy of flowers and a book of the National Trust’s gardens. She also had a poem written for her.
Lady Jo Benson invited Dora to join the day centre after she retired as headteacher of St Martin’s Primary School in Salisbury. She said: “On my visit there I was most impressed with the loving and happy atmosphere so there I stayed.”
Dora, who has an art degree, held an oil painting group every week and said: “It was always a joy to see the members develop their skills and it is a move I have never regretted.”
She said she will miss all the members of the day centre but she is a lay pastoral assistant at St Francis Church and will become more involved in that now, giving communion in the six retirement homes in the parish.
