PLANS to repair and convert a redundant agricultural yard into a home have been rejected.
Wiltshire Council’s planning officers said Bowles Barn and Yard in Winterbourne Gunner is in open countryside where a new dwelling would not be permitted unless it was required for agriculture or local need.
Richard Bruce-White had applied for permission to repair the existing main barn building, remove the corrugated iron roof and replace it with thatch and convert the associate cob stores to create a single-storey extension.
But the council’s southern area planning committee said the land is not considered to be previously developed land, due to its agricultural use, and would require special justification for an isolated new house in the countryside.
