STAFF at Salisbury District are urging people to sign up to the organ donor register and share their wishes with family and friends as part of a new drive to increase the number of organ donations.
There are currently more than 7,500 people waiting for an organ transplant in the UK and three people die each day while waiting.
Although many say they would support organ donation, they have still not signed up.
Specialist nurse in organ donation Paula Dawson said: "While the possibility of organ and tissue donation will come at a tragic time for the family, it is possible that one person can save the lives of many others.
"We are asking people who would support organ donation to join the NHS Organ Donor Register and make their wishes known to their family and friends. By sharing this it can help families make the right decision for them at the end of their loved one's life."
For information about joining the organ donor register call 03001232323 or visit organdonation.nhs.uk.
