A SPECTACULAR couple of shows showed off just how much talent Verwood’s youngsters have got at the weekend.

Yet the town’s latest Talented Youth concerts could be the last, after organiser Angela Daymond revealed she was stepping down.

Mrs Daymond is hoping someone else will take over the role, which has seen children of all ages singing, dancing and playing music for the last seven years.

Olivia Mitchell and Katie Beaven have appeared in every concert since the first one at the Memorial Hall in 2006.

Several performers have also been on television shows and won national and international |competitions, yet all of them came from the local area.

Mrs Daymond now hopes to use her time raising money for a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for the recreation ground with the help of her committee Active Games for All.

With the £100,000 project in mind, proceeds from the concerts will be going towards the MUGA.

Compère Laura Jerome told the audience: “Do you know that just £20 from every household in Verwood, would pay for the MUGA and it could be installed now.

“That’s £20 from every house, not every person.

“The first stage of the project – the fitness |equipment which has received funding from previous Talented Youth Concerts, is being installed in |March.”

Mrs Daymond told the Journal: “The community is really starting to get involved now and we’re |hoping to raise the money as quickly as possible, so I’m having to stop organising the concerts.

“We have lots of children in the concerts each time and it’s quite time-consuming. But I am hopeful |someone will step forward to organise it in future years.”

Anyone who would like to talk to Mrs Daymond about the concerts or fundraising for the MUGA can contact her on 01202 822549.
