Swim or walk to get fit and swell charity coffers

PEOPLE who want to improve their fitness and do their bit for charity are being invited to participate in two events - one swimming and the other walking - which are being backed by the Journal in 2012.

The Swimathon is being organised once again by the Rotary Club of Salisbury. It takes place at the Godolphin School, Milford Hill, Salisbury, on Saturday, April 14 and is open to teams across the city.

Alan Corkill, Swimathon organiser said: “The aim is to swim as many 25m lengths as possible in the allotted 55 minutes. You will be working as a team and sponsored on how many lengths you complete collectively.

“Each team will consist of up to eight members swimming continuously for the entire period with only one member of the team in the water at any one time.”

All the money raised from the event will be donated to the Rotary’s charities.

Deadline for entries is February 25. Entry forms can be obtained by e-mailing alan.corkill43@gmail.com The second Journal-supported event will be the annual Midnight Walk, which this year takes place on the weekend of June 9 and 10.

The walk has raised more than £100,000 for Salisbury Hospice since it first took place three years ago.

The event will begin at the stroke of midnight at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre and the ten mile lap around the city takes in the hospice halfway through the journey.
