FOUR new canons will be installed at Salisbury Cathedral this summer.

The Bishop of Salisbury, the Right Revd Nicholas Holtam, will install Ceri Hurford-Jones, managing director of Spire FM, as a Lay Canon and reverends Andrew Perry, Chris Tebbutt and Vanda Perrett as Non-Residentiary Canons during Evensong on July 3.

Once installed, they will join Salisbury Cathedral’s College of Canons. The college meets twice a year and provides feedback to the cathedral on its activities and informs the policy decisions of chapter, its governing body.

Mr Hurford-Jones has been actively involved in St Laurence’s in Downton, both as a sidesman and deputy church warden, and since 2007 he has been an active member of the Diocese Communication Management group and is a non-executive director of Salisbury Cathedral Enterprises.

Rev Perry has ministered in the Salisbury diocese since 1995 when he became vicar of St Mary’s Longfleet, where he has overseen the growth of the church community from about 85 to 800 people.

Rev Tebbutt, rural dean and team rector at Canford Magna, is heavily involved with the Aldhelm Mission Fund, which supports new mission initiatives and fresh expressions of church in parishes.

Rev Perrett has been the rural dean of Alderbury since 2007. She is passionate about Christian education and worship as well as women’s ministry and is currently studying for an MA in Christian liturgy.

Dean of Salisbury the Very Revd June Osborne said: “We are delighted to be welcoming these four new members. They will bring us fresh insights and valuable experience from their specialisms, helping the cathedral engage with the widest range of organisations and opinions throughout the diocese and civic community.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a varied and impressive array of talent and knowledge in the college and we thank all existing canons too for the service they provide to the cathedral.”
