FORDINGBRIDGE Estate agent Andrew Donald is scaling the heights to raise money for a hospice.

Mr Donald, a partner with Woolley & Wallis, has raised thousands of pounds for hospices and cancer charities since his mother Jackie Swindell died from liver cancer aged 67.

This week Mr Donald, 43, is taking on one of his biggest challenges by cycling the Route des Hautes Alpes, from Geneva to Menton on the Mediterranean coast for Oakhaven hospice in Lymington.

His week-long ride, which started last Saturday, will cross the high Alpine cols made famous by the Tour de France such as Col de Madeleine, Glandon, l'Alpe d'Huez, Lautaret, Galibier, Izoard, Vars and Bonnette.

His preparation for the event has been hampered by an accident with a car when he was out on his bike earlier this year. He had to undergo a bi-lateral knee operation and is due another one soon.

Mr Donald, who lives in Fordingbridge, said: “I know from personal experience the wonderful work that is undertaken by hospices such as Oakhaven so I am delighted to be able to support its work through my ride. This route will be a real challenge and I hope my knee will hold out.”

He hopes his endeavours will raise £5,000 for Oakhaven Hospice. To make a donation click here.
