WINCHESTER’S popular Hat Fair is on the lookout for volunteers to help out over the busy weekend from July 6 to 8.

Named after the tradition of throwing donations into performance hats, Hat Fair first appeared on the Winchester scene in 1974 as a buskers’ festival. It is now Britain’s longest running celebration of street arts and theatre and has developed a reputation for presentation large-scale works.

Kate Hazel, artistic director, said: “One of the great strengths of this event is its fabulous volunteer force. They really do make the whole thing possible and it is lovely working with them.”Volunteers need to be aged 18 or over and full training is given by Hat Fair organisers so no previous experience is necessary.

You can help for three hours or for the whole three days, it is completely flexible.

Anyone interested can go to the Hat Fair website at hatfair.co.uk for a registration form or contact Hat Fair on 01962 849841 for more information.
