THE new Bishop of Ramsbury has been announced as Reverend Canon Edward Condry.

He will work closely with the Bishop of Salisbury, Right Reverend Nicholas Holtam, to look after the ministry in the diocese, working with the clergy, congregations and communities.

Canon Condry, 59, will move to Wiltshire from Canterbury Cathedral where he has been in charge of teaching and education.

He has also been involved with promoting fair trade and energy issues as well as supporting the arts.

“I am delighted by my appointment and look forward to moving to this beautiful part of the country,” he said.

“Cathedral life has been wonderful but I’m excited about going back to working with the community including schools and local churches.”

Canon Condry is married to Sarah and the couple have four adult children.

He also enjoys sporting challenges including 10 marathons and competing in the British Indoor Rowing Championships before representing Team GB in the 2006 World Championships held in Boston.

This summer he is cycling 1,500 miles from Olympia in Greece to the Olympic Stadium in London in two weeks to raise money for the air ambulance.

A date for Canon Condry’s consecration as bishop will be announced shortly.
