DUE to a spell of unseasonably cool and unreliable weather, the group’s annual garden meeting was held indoors in Dinton Village Hall on Wednesday, June 13.

The president, Vivian Longland, welcomed 18 members to the meeting, which began with a short business session.

News of the secretary, Margaret Collins, who had fallen badly a week or so before, was given to members and a card was signed by all present.

Draft copies of a new leaflet entitled Welcome to Dinton WI were shown to members.

It was generally agreed this leaflet would be a good way of informing newcomers to the village about Dinton WI and about the WI in general.

Gillian Hill, Jackie Taylor and Phyllis Wharby, Dinton WI’s oldest member, were presented with birthday cards.

Plans for a coffee morning in August and an outing to Dent’s Glove factory in September were discussed briefly.

Members then had plenty of time to chat and enjoy the excellent home-baked afternoon tea provided by Bernadette Walters with the help of the committee.

A bouquet of tulips was presented to Bernadette, and Vivian thanked her on behalf of all members.

The afternoon concluded with a quiz devised by Jan Moore and based on the subject of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The winning team members were each presented with a plant.

The monthly competition was to produce a garden on a saucer.

Penny Adams and Pat Smith shared first prize.

The next meeting will be on July 11 when David and Moira Richards will give a talk entitled Our Travels.
