DAVID Halls, Salisbury Cathedral’s director of music, performs a recital of music with links to the cathedral, its history or surroundings on a new DVD, The Grand Organ of Salisbury Cathedral.

Recorded and filmed last year, the DVD gives pride of place to the Cathedral’s famed Father Willis organ. Built in 1877 and regarded as one of the finest pipe organs in the world, it is considered a perfect example of the English romantic organ.

Music on the concert programme includes much loved organ favourites such as Bach’s Chorale Prelude: Wachet auf and Eric Coates’ Dance in the Twilight as well as newer works including Salisbury Fanfare written by Halls.

Bonus features of the DVD include demonstrations on both the Father Willis and Collins chamber organ and Halls talking about the music. The package comes complete with a CD of the 76-minute recital and short programme notes.

The DVD is released by priory Records and is available from the Cathedral shop and all good record stores.
