CANOEING, caving and climbing are just some of the activities children from Mere School got up to during a fun-filled trip to Wales.

A group of 25 children from Year 5 went to Plas Pencilli in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales, where they also enjoyed climbing and abseiling.

Evening activities included problem solving, team building, orienteering and scavenger hunts.

A popular activity was the Dingle Descent, which involved children being roped together and navigating their way down a slippery river bed.

Every other child was blindfolded and reliant on children in front and behind to give instructions to avoid obstacles and get safely from start to finish.

Teacher Debs Shannon said: “The staff at Pencelli were very complimentary about the group, especially their listening skills and positive attitudes. Considering many of the children had never spent a night away from home before, they and their parents can be very proud of their resilience, positivity and adaptability throughout the week.”
