A MAN who dumped waste on a bridleway near Wilton has been ordered to pay £400 costs and complete 100 hours of community service.

John Turner, 24, admitted dumping the waste at Hare Warren in November last year after being paid £40 to remove it from an address in Wilton.

The waste was discovered by Wiltshire Council officers and traced back to Turner.

The council's Cabinet member for enforcement Dick Tonge said: “People need to realise that if they dispose of waste illegally we will catch up with them.

"We are putting a steady stream of cases before the court, which shows we have an effective response to the problem, but we would far rather people did not fly tip in the first place.

“This should also act as a reminder to all residents to check the credentials of anyone offering to remove waste, always ask to see a waste carrier’s licence and always ask where they are taking your waste.”

Turner, of Juniper Close, Bournemouth was sentenced by magistrates in Salisbury on June 18.
