STONEHENGE and Amesbury had some very special visitors who travelled 6,000 miles to celebrate the Summer Solstice.
Amauta priests from the ancient Tiwanaku temple of the Aymara people, found high in the Bolivian Andes, visited so they could be at the centre of the ancient monument at sunrise and to deliver a blessing from the Sun and Mother Earth.
A friendship has developed between the Aymara people and the community in Amesbury after contact was made through local Druids.
A private ceremony was held by the River Avon to coincide with sunrise at Tiwanaku, and on Friday the groups was formally received for lunch by the Amesbury 2012 committee and Amesbury Town Council at the Bowman Centre.
