Sign up for Memory Walk

A WALKING marathon between Stonehenge and Avebury is set to raise much needed money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The event, which takes place on September 16, was launched by the deputy mayor of Amesbury Larry Evenett on Friday.

This is the third time the event will take place and walkers will complete a 26 mile route between the famous stone circles.

“I am delighted that Alzheimer’s Society has asked me to help out with the launch of this fantastic event,” said Cllr Evenett. “The Society is a cause close to my heart as my mother died last year with vascular dementia so I have seen first hand how dementia can affect someone. I urge everyone to sign up and tell their friends and family about this challenging and rewarding event.”

The launch was also attended by Veronica and Christopher Devas (67). Mrs Devas, who took part in the Memory Walk in 2010, cares for her husband who has dementia and attends Alzheimer’s Society services in Tisbury.

“I had a really lovely day and I still have my medal to remind me of the fun I had,” she said. “Dementia touches so many of us in one way or another. I would encourage everyone to sign up and help us support those with the condition.”

Memory Walk 2012 is being held in partnership with Bupa Care Homes.

It starts at Stonehenge at 7:00am. To register visit alzheimers.org.uk/mwsouth or call 0870 417 0192. There is a registration fee of £30.
