Blood donors urged to come forward and help save lives
4:19pm Tuesday 10th July 2012 in News
A NEW blood donor session is being launched in Verwood tomorrow.
The first session will be held at The Hub from 1.30pm-3.30pm and 4.30pm–7pm.
More sessions will be on Wednesday, September 5 and Friday, October 12 at the same times.
Lead donor relations manager Jonathan Sewell said: “As blood has a limited shelf life of 35 days and platelets only seven days it is vital for both blood and platelet donors to come forward and help save lives this year.
“As each donation has the potential to help or save up to three adults or nine babies, we are urging the people of Dorset to come forward and give blood.”
Every day 7,000 units of blood are needed in hospitals across England and North Wales. Of those who are eligible to donate and help save people’s lives, only four per cent do so.
The service also runs sessions at Fordingbridge’s Burgate School sports hall, Ringwood’s Trinity Centre, Downton Memorial Hall and the village hall in Bransgore.
