ASSESTS seized from criminals will be used to fund community projects as part of a new police scheme.
Hampshire Police’s Financial Investigation Unit works to secure the successful confiscation of assets and money gained by criminals.
Now the force is returning this money to the communities of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
People are able to apply for grants of between £300 and £3,000.
Assistant Chief Constable David Pryde said: “The money we take away from criminals belongs back in the community, which is why we have set up our CashBack for Communities Fund.
“We want to encourage and support the work of local initiatives that help to keep the neighbourhoods of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight safe and pleasant places to live.
“We want to hear from any community group or organisation that runs projects or initiatives which help to reduce crime and require some funding towards the work they do.”
A spokesman said applications could come from public, private and voluntary sector organisations and groups with community initiatives that help to reduce crime, the fear of crime or help to tackle antisocial behaviour.
The closing date for applications for this round of funding is March 31, 2013.
Applications can be submitted at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation website at www.hantscf.org.uk , search for CashBack for Communities.
