Stig to come to Salisbury

TOPGEAR’S The Stig will be making an appearance in Salisbury tomorrow (Saturday) when he drives into the city to help out at a fundraising event at the Guildhall.

The masked test driver will be joining Hero the Bear from Help for Heroes, and a number of drivers taking part in this year’s Rally for Heroes, as they fundraise during the day in Guildhall Square.

The mammoth, seven-day road trip around Europe which begins on August 18 will see more than a 100 people driving along some of the most famous and challenging tracks and routes such as the Grossglockner Pass and the Hockenheim Circuit.

Travelling in 50 cars, the group, which comprises service personnel and civilians, will depart from the Top Gear test track in Surrey and travel five miles for every fallen solider who has lost their life in Afghanistan.

Mark Jackson from Amesbury, who spent 24 years in the Royal Artillery, has signed up as one of the rally drivers, and his wife Kim will accompany him on the trip as co-driver and navigator in their BMW Z4.

She said: “We’re trying to raise £100,000 and to date we have £80,000 which is just amazing.

“The trip is entirely self-funded which means all funds raised will go towards our chosen charities which are Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.”
