Hot career for teens
2:00pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in News By Miranda Robertson
YOUNG people are being offered the chance to become firefighters – and gain a BTEC qualification to boot.
Ringwood Fire Station is looking for youngsters aged 14-16 from a variety of backgrounds to become young firefighters, representing the New Forest.
Cadets will be given a fire uniform, be trained in the use of fire fighting equipment and learn a range of skills which will last a lifetime.
The Young Firefighters’ Association, run by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Constabulary, is running the programme for 18 months.
Young firefighters will have their own fire engine and be trained to use hoses, ladders and breathing apparatus. They will also receive a BTEC in Fire and Rescue Services in the Community, a qualification recognised by employers and educational establishments.
Anyone interested should go to hantsfire.gov.uk/youngfirefighters to download an application form and email it to YFA@hantsfire.gov.uk . by August 13.
